Origins of Islam
The Quran is the holy book of Islam. It is believed to be revelations of God through the Angel Gabriel to the ProphetMohammed. It is believed to have started at 609 A.D. when Muhammad was 40 and was approached by Angel Gabriel who was sent from God. This was to be the first revelation between Muhammad and God. Also, it was discovered in the cave of Hira according to Muslim traditions until 632 A.D. when he died.
Prophet Muhammad was the founder of Islamic religion and was accepted by Muslims to be the last prophet from God. Muhammed was born in 570 A.D. He was born into a rich family of the Quraish. The power of the Quraish came from being successful merchants. Several trade routes were all over Mecca and allowed these merchants to easily travel and trade goods. This allowed the Quraish to control trade along the west coast of Arabia, north to Syria, and south to Yemen. However, Muhammad’s parents both died early, his dad died before he was even born, and Muhammad’s mom died shortly after giving birth. Mecca was an area known for having a polytheistic religion, or the belief of many gods. On one of the times that Muhammad went to the mountains, he was visited by Angel Gabriel and told Muhammad to recite the words of God. This was the first of many revelations that became the basis of the Qur'an, the holy book of Islam. This now made Muhammad believe that there is only one single God and contradicted the original type of religion which was polytheistic religion.
The origin of Islam can be dated all the way back to the 7th century in Mecca or modern day Saudi Arabia. Islam was founded by Prophet Muhammad. It is said that Muhammad was the last of the prophets following after Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Muhammad was dedicated to the book, Quran. Islam is a monotheistic religion, this means that they only believe in one god. In this case the god they worship is named Allah. This however was threatening Mecca’s economic prosperity. There was a time of persecution on Islamics. Many people pledged to fight to death for Muhammad.
