Biography
Education:Public Schools
Nicole is a lifelong resident of New York City, she attended P.S. 53, I.S. 24, and New Dorp High School. Just like many other children of immigrants she was also the first in her family to graduate from College, earning a B.A. from Seton Hall University and an M.B.A from Wagner College.
Daughter of Immigrants
Both Nicole's parents are immigrants. Her father is from Greece and her mother is a Cuban exile of the Castro dictatorship. Just like many other people her parents came to New York in search for the American Dream. Their ethics of hard work carried onto Nicole and inspired her life in public service.
Political Background
Nicole Malliotakis started as  a State Assembly women when she was elected on November 2, 2010. She became the first Greek/Cuban American woman elected to office in New York State as well as the first Hispanic descent elected to the office in Staten Island. She is now currently running in the NYC mayoral election under the republican party.

Issues
Homelessness
According to the Coalition for the Homeless, homelessness in New York City has reached “the highest levels since the Great Depression of the 1930s” with over 61,277 homeless individuals. According to the Independent Budget Office, the number of homeless children in our public school system rose by 15% during de Blasio’s first year in office, reaching nearly 33,000 in the 2015-16 school year.

This year’s budget for the Department of Homeless Services is $1,775,043,042.00. Unfortunately, this is nothing if you don’t have a workable plan. According to Steve Banks, “Since the de Blasio administration stopped forecasting the number of people in need of shelter, they could not plan for capacity. They relaxed eligibility rules which allowed formerly ineligible applicants to begin flooding the system.” People were no longer getting removed from the shelters or being encouraged about living independently, which could lead to the problem of homelessness to forever exist.

One option to get rid of this problem is to increase affordable housing options
  • Free Up Space in New York Public Housing
  • Work with Governor to sign a “New York/New York IV Agreement”
  • Create an At-Risk Rent Subsidy
  • Create Permanent Assisted Housing for Those with Severe Health Conditions

Education
Nicole Malliotakis is extremely attached to the issues involving our school systems. She will ensure that education funding is being properly spent and gets to the schools where it can do the most good and this will be done by issuing an audit of all DOE contracts. As a matter of fact, she believes hardly on school safety and has knowledge of the horrible situation that happened on sandy hook ‘’Since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut, where 20 children were murdered on December 12, 2012, there have been 220 shootings on school campuses throughout the United States. Outside of the home, the safest place for a child should be his or her school.’’ She states that indeed we do have police guarding our school. But, they are not well prepared for an actual commitment ‘’The majority of DOE schools are staffed with one NYPD School Safety Agent. While these agents perform admirable work, they are unarmed and simply unequipped to deal with the threat of an active shooter.’’

As a result of the inevitable school failure of our past. This past school year, 62% of New York City students in grades 3-8 did not pass state math exams, and 59% failed reading tests, yet Mayor de Blasio is taking a victory lap. Even more shocking is 80% of public school graduates who enter the CUNY system are required to take remedial math, writing, and reading during their freshman year. This is not something to celebrate but instead should sound the alarm that reform is much needed’’ To further analyze this issue Malliotakis has an idea of the agonizing percentages that lie under our residents. This will affect students in the future and will decrease progress for a more productive society. Also, she came up with a plan about education results and will work transparently with educators, administrators, Community Education Councils, and other stakeholders to improve them.

Jobs & The Economy

"As the daughter of retired small business owners, I understand the challenges entrepreneurs face on a daily basis." - Nicole Malliotakis
Nicole Malliotakis wants to fight for the businesses, big or small. She opposes the regulations, red tape, and taxes being levied on businesses and wants reform. The way she’ll do this is by making it easier to create a business, easing up on the taxes for smaller businesses and give businesses some leeway for smaller violations that are not life threatening.

Transportation
New York is a metrocard city with one of the greatest public transportations services. Yet it has many issues that have not been taken care of on a serious manner. There are many services delays coming from our MTA and is affecting our valorous citizens. But, Nicole has found a way to deal with this problem. Her idea involves the upgrade of the subway signals which stated by Nicole is the main cause for the roughly 70,000 delays NYC’s commuters experience monthly.
Nicole Malliotakis has an innovative idea to advance our technology on our traffic and she calls this “a step into the 21st Century that most New York City motorists would feel is long overdue.” This technological change could modificate those annoying old-fashioned traffic lights that can’t have enough intelligence to actually read the traffic patterns and create a way to easily smooth those rageous drivers.

Voter's Guide
When is the mayoral election and when to vote?
To begin, basically the mayoral election is on a Tuesday, November 7. But, you could have had still voted on the primaries since the start of September 12. A primary means a way to remove candidates that are not qualified for the actual election that happens in November 7.
Where to go if you don’t know where to vote around your area?
If you are struggling to find the nearest location to vote, don’t hesitate because The NYC Board of Elections has a microsite where you can enter your address to find your polling place. Go to https://nyc.pollsitelocator.com/search and fill up with the information requested. Once done you will get directions to the nearest pool from your location.
