IMMIGRATION
As a daughter of two immigrants, Nicole understands the desire of the American Dream. The plan is to expand the range of crimes that can be used to remove illegal immigrants. Immigrants will not be deported for petty crimes such as Turnstile jumping. Bill De Blassio has not been listening to requests made by the ICE. Nicole will make NYC honor ICE requests like they used to before De Blasio came in power. De Blasio’s policies that protect undocumented immigrants who have committed serious crimes will be ended. |
TRANSPORTATION
As mayor, Nicole will transform New York City's old traffic grid to a newer traffic grid with Smart Light Technology. Funds that are already there will be used to overhaul the subway. Nicole has been advocating for the update of subway signals, which are the causes for over 700,00 delays and accidents in New York City. The subway and buses are a crucial part of an everyday New Yorker and they need to be upgraded. |
HOMELESSNESS
Street homelessness has increased by 39 percent just in 2017. This year, $1,775,043,042 was the budget for the Department of Homeless Services. If we don't have a good plan, there is no use of this money. Mayor De Basio's five year plan is to open 90 homeless shelters. Although, this may seem like a good plan, it is not a permanent solution. People will continue to be dependent on these shelters. There should be an INCREASE in affordable housing instead, a more permanent solution. |
MENTAL HEALTH
Mayor Bill de Blasio has been unsuccessful in properly aiding the severely mentally ill who are more likely to be incarcerated, hospitalized, homeless. Mayor Bill de Blasio has failed to properly treat those who are mentally ill, as many are incarcerated rather than given the proper care. As Mayor Nicole has devised a plan she calls, Treatment B4 Crisis, which will ensure that any current mental health resources be used to reduce the number of mentally ill in our jails and on our streets.A key part of the plan is a stronger implementation of Kendra’s law, which allows judges to order a person who has severe mental illness and a history of noncompliance leading to incarceration or needless hospitalization to be transferred to mandated and monitored outpatient treatment. |
EDUCATION
Nicole Malliotakis promises to dig deep into the mess our city's school funding has gotten into under Mayor Bill de Blasio's mayoral run. Nicole Malliotakis will audit all Department of Education contracts to ensure education funding is being properly allocated and actually getting to schools. Nicole Malliotakis will be committed to working with parents, teachers, principals, and school leaders to find common ground on issued they have with the Department of Education. |
TAXES
Nicole Malliotakis is strongly opposed to raising taxes to solve the problems of the city, rather she promises to reconfigure how current funding is being spent to maximize positive results. Bill de Blasio has increased the spending of tax payer money by 22% however doesn't put it to good use as our quality of life is still being hindered with problems caused by homelessness, transit, traffic and litter. Nicole promises to reform the city's broken property tax system so working class citizens do not have to continue subsidizing the homes of millionaires.
