1 ) Christianity began about 2000 years ago in the 1st century. Christianity originated in Judea which is current day Israel.
2 ) The founder of Christianity can be assumed to be a man named Paul. The religion originated approximately after the death of Jesus, he was then acknowledged by later supporters as Christ. After that, Paul helped the religion spread. He had great influence on the development of Christianity during the Pax Romana, after converting to Christianity, he devoted the rest of his life to “spreading and interpreting Christ’s teachings.”(World History). Altogether, Paul is the founder of Christianity and Jesus is the reason it was established.
3 ) Christianity's supreme being is God. God does not change and can accomplish whatever he wants to accomplish. God has a vast amount of acknowledge and is self-aware of himself, but he also holds a great source of power that allows him to be able to accomplish anything that seems impossible to humans. In the article it states many verses that show how God is capable of doing things that humans will never be able to do but it also gives a brief part saying how he's very forgiving.
4 ) The religious leader of Christianity is the pope. The current pope is Pope Francis, he is the 266th pope. Pope Francis was elected in March 2013. He is the head of the Roman Catholic Church and the Bishop of Rome. “What this means on a daily basis is that the pope, in this case Pope Francis I, has duties both political and religious. The pope meets with heads of state and maintains diplomatic relationships with more than 100 nations.” In addition the present role of the Pope is to meet with the heads of state. He also keeps the diplomatic relationships with other nations. Furthermore, the pope plays a very important role to the religion of Christianity.
5 ) The cross is known to be the principal symbol of Christianity, it came to be after the infamous crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. However, the cross was not the first symbol of Christianity, early Christians used the fish, or ichthus, as their symbol because it was an acronym for “Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Savior”. After the Roman Empire’s crucifixion of Jesus and many of his followers, Christians began to use the cross to symbolize their faith. The Christian use of the cross originated around the time of Constantine, approximately 300 years after the death of Jesus. To this day, there are some Christians who do not worship the cross. For those who do, the cross is viewed as the instrument of crucifixion and it has a symbolic meaning.
6 ) Christianity spread through the efficiency of the Roman Empire. The teachings of Christ and Christian ideology included the concept of equality. However, people gravitated towards anything that would offer a new hope, especially as the stability of the late empire continued to unravel. After Christ died, Paul continued his teachings and helped spread Christianity. Paul taught the gospel of the Christ to the first century world. He preached that the Old Law, or the Laws of Moses, should be replaced by faith in Christ.

Group 4- Beliefs Research
Question 1: What are the major beliefs of the belief system?
One of the major beliefs of Christianity is that Jesus is the son of God. He is the second person of the trinity of God the father, the son, and the holy spirit. His life on earth consisted of him being sinless and then his body was sent to heaven. This showed his love for God. He was crucified to pay for the penalty of the Christians sins. Another belief was in the bible. Christians believed the bible was inspired from God. The bible was said to be “breathed out” from him. The bible consisted of many holy scriptures to educate them on Christianity. The ideology on “man” was another said belief. Man was created for an “image of God” and not an evolutionary process. Heaven, Hell and Satan were some other beliefs. Satan is a supernatural person, a fallen angel and an enemy of God. He is the angel of all sins. Hell is a place for Satan and his followers. Heaven is where the Gods’ presence is being manifested. Therefore, these are some major beliefs of Christianity.
Question 2: What are the values of the belief system? Describe and explain each belief?
Christians are taught beliefs pertaining to the importance of kindness and placing others before themselves; overall they are taught to value righteousness, love. And other important morals These values help teach Christians not to judge others and respect them regardless of race, nationality, or any aspects that makes us different. They must learn to forgive others regardless of their actions as they don’t promote holding hatred for others. They value living a moral life and to be righteous, one that has not committed any sins and one that is responsible for their own actions. Promoting these beliefs help strengthen their relation to god as they seek to always be good in god’s eyes.
Question 3: What does the place of worship look like? (If there is one) What is the name of this structure? Why is this the place of worship?
The place of worship in Christianity is the church; churches are made to look simple and open where most are very old fashioned. Many are built with a simple roof similar to any other house however with a tower rising above with a recognizable large cross on top. The church has become Christianity's place of worship because of God’s wish to build him a sanctuary; a place dedicated to worship god. At first followers could worship in any place they desire but now the church has become the place where all followers could worship. The church usually consists of murals made of glass as windows depicting a picture pertaining to Christianity and seats aligned to each other.
Question 4: What are some of the holy/important/symbolic places that are associated with the belief system? Explain. An important place that is associated with Christianity is the church. Christians go to church and worship their god. A holy Christian place is Jerusalem. This is where Jesus was born so it is considered holy. Another holy place is the River Jordan. In this river, Jesus was baptized. Golgotha is also a very significant place because this is where it is said that Jesus was crucified. Nazareth is Jesus’ home town so when he was spoken of, they would refer to him as Jesus of Nazareth.
Question 5: describe the belief system’s views about death and the afterlife. If there’s any important ceremonies that take place include them also.* Explain.
Christianity is a religion that believes in life after death. Vast majority of Christians believe in some sort of heaven, however, what is required to get into heaven, and the conceptions of heaven differ between groups. A slightly smaller majority of christians believe in hell. Hell is viewed as a place of suffering for sinners or unbelievers. Once again, what is required to get into hell, and the conceptions of hell differ between different groups of Christianity. After a christian dies, a funeral is held to give the family and friends a chance to grieve. The funeral is held about a week after the death. Christians have the choice to either be buried or cremated. The funeral usually takes place in a churn, conducted by a priest. The ceremony involves hymns, readings, and prayers by both, the priest and the deceased’s family and friends. If the body has been cremated, the ashes will be scattered. Otherwise, the body is buried in a cemetery, marked with a gravestone.
Question 6: Is there a central administration for the belief system? If yes, how is it organized? (Example: Catholicism is organized by the Pope) Explain
Christianity is a large religion today with billions of followers. Because of its growing numbers, multiple churches and places of worship are spread across the world today. These churches are organized by people from the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox churches, and the Protestant churches.Catholicism is organized by the Pope, while Eastern Orthodoxy is organized by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. A large majority of Christianity is organized by bishops. At the local level, a priest led each small group of Christians. A bishop, who was also a priest, supervised several local churches. Bishops are high priests, pastors, popes, and patriarchs of the the church. In catholicism the pope is the head bishop. There are also independent churches for Christianity as well as numerous groups throughout the world.

1. Can women and men hold the leadership/spiritual roles within the belief system? (Example: can women lead prayer or become a priest)
In Christianity, women and men can both hold the leadership/spiritual roles within the belief system. Christianity is split up into different spiritual roles such as deacon, pastor, and elder. There is no limit to who can become who because women and men are both equal in Christianity. The pastor watches the way you act, how faithful you are, and etc and when the time comes he or she gives you the role of a deacon. As long as you are a true Christian, you can take on any role in the belief system.
2. Name two important historical figures, other than the founder/supreme being (that come out of this belief system and explain why they are important. If the religion is polytheistic, discuss 2 gods or goddesses).
Two important historical figures in Christianity are Adam and Eve. Adam was the first person that God had made. He made Adam with dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. When he saw that Adam was lonely, he put Adam to sleep, took a rib bone and created the first woman, Eve. They both lived in the Garden Of Eden and was able to do anything they wanted. But there was one thing that they weren’t allowed to do which was eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But a snake which is a devil persuaded Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge and even though she knew she wasn’t allowed to, she made Adam eat it with her. From thence they learned what embarrassment was and were kicked out of the Garden Of Eden. Because of their sin, now all humans sin and instead of living peacefully men have to work to support their family and women have to go through severe pain while giving birth.
3. What are 2-3 major holidays/festivals that are associated with the belief system? Briefly describe them and their significance in your own words.
There are many holidays or festivals regarding to Christianity. One of them includes Christmas. In the Christian religion, Christmas is celebrated because it was the birth of Jesus, which is on December 25th, observed by Roman Catholics and Protestants. He was given birth by a virgin, named Mary. The English word "Christmas" comes from the old English Christes maesse, meaning "Christ's mass." In fact, Christians have been celebrating Jesus' birth since at least the early fourth century. Christ’s birth is honored because of his significance in history and what he'd done. For example, we are separated from God because of sin, but Jesus came to take away our sins by becoming the final and complete sacrifice for sin through his death on the cross. Another important holiday is Easter, which is the most important and oldest festival of the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. Easter is held between March 21st and April 25th. Christian churches in the West celebrates Easter on the first Sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox on March 21. Therefore, Easter is observed anywhere between March 22 and April 25 every year. Christians believe, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. In addition, through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, which allows Christians to believe he is resurrected. In the Christian calendar, the forty days before Easter is known as Lent. It begins on Ash Wednesday and is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebration of Easter. Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert. While Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus after his death on the cross, Lent recalls the events leading up to and including Jesus' crucifixion by Rome. Christians who observe Lent usually makes a commitment to fast, or to give up something such as a habit. This may include smoking, swearing and giving up your favorite foods. As a matter of fact, some Christians also take on a Lenten discipline, which includes reading the Bible and spending more time in prayer to get closer to God.
4. Where is this belief system mainly practiced today? Why? Explain. If it is not commonly practiced today, explain why.
Christianity is a popular religion that is commonly practiced in the United States of America. The reason for its popularity is because Christianity has beliefs many people are attracted to. For example, Christianity believes in being a good person and spreading positivity over negativity. In other words, Christianity promotes peace. Christianity believes that as long as you do good, you will go to a paradise in the afterlife called heaven. Another reason why Christianity is so popular in America is because Christianity has been in America since America was founded. The colonists practiced Christianity as their religion. Through the years, Christianly survived and planted firm roots into America.
5. How many adherents (followers) does this belief system have? What percentage of the world population practices this belief system?
Christianity is a very popular belief system all around the world. There are 19 major world religions which are subdivided into 270 large religious groups and many smaller ones. “Worldwide, more than eight-in-ten people identify with a religious group,” says a new comprehensive demographic study of more than 230 countries and territories conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life. Today, 34,000 separate Christian groups have been identified in the world. It is the largest religion in the world with over 2 billion followers. In addition, about 32.5% of the world population practices Christianity. The largest population of Christians (243 million) is found in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, the Philippines, Nigeria and China. As a matter of fact, a person is considered to be of a particular religion if they say that they are of that faith. The U.S. number is gradually declining about 1 percentage point per year, even though the total population of the U.S. is increasing. This is because many individuals and religious groups have strict wantings for their religion. For example, many conservative Christians believe that one has to be “born again” to be counted as a Christian. This means that about 35% of Americans would be counted as Christians. Some of about 1,000 Christian faith groups in the U.S. and Canada believe themselves to be the only true Christian denomination.
6. Is the belief system religiously tolerant? How does the religion promote peace? Explain.
Today, some Christians are religiously tolerant and believe that people are free to follow their own religion while others are more demanding and say that Christianity is the only real religion and all other religions are a lie. Christians promote peace through their teachings from their holy book known as the “Bible”. Some sayings that promote peace include “But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek” which shows how Christians believe that they should suffer through the pain without trying to get revenge. By following rules known as the “The Commandments” Christians are able to promote peace and live a good life in order to gain access to heaven in the afterlife.

3. There are some ways that the branches differ from the original belief system. For example, worship and liturgy. The Orthodox believes that the ‘Divine Liturgy’ is the centre of Orthodox spirituality. The Protestants believed that there was a wide variety of worship styles. Some of them include the spontaneity of the Pentecostal churches, and the more traditional worship of the Anglican churches in the Catholic tradition. The Roman Catholic believed that worship is centered around the Mass. Following the Vatican II council (1962-5), greater emphasis was placed on worship in the vernacular, though the traditional Latin (‘Tridentine’) Mass is also used. All of these branches have different ways of worship and liturgy.
4. There some ways that the branches are similar from the original belief system. For example, the Holy Spirit. The Orthodox believed that the third person of the Trinity, proceeding from the Father alone as in the original Nicene Creed, the Father sends the Spirit at the intercession of the Son. The Son is therefore an agent only in the procession of the Spirit. The Protestants believed that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. The Nicene creed includes the filioque (Latin: ‘and the son’). The Roman Catholic agrees with the Protestant view. Ambrose of Milan wrote: ‘When the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son, He is not separated from the Father, He is not separated from the Son’. All of these branches and similar beliefs about the Holy Spirit.
