Who is Pete Buttigieg?

He is the mayor of the South Bend, Ind.
He was just 29 when he was elected to lead South Bend.
In 2014, he took a leave of absence to serve for seven months in Afghanistan. 
In 2015, he was re-elected mayor with 80% of the vote.

Abortion

  • Will prohibit state government from interfering in private insurance coverage of abortion
  • Safeguard the constitutional right to a safe and legal abortion
  • Write abortion rights into law
Economy

  • The Walker-Lewis Initiative is a plan Pete created to help triple the number of entrepreneurs in under served backgrounds
  • Will help to create up to 3 million new jobs in minority communities and across the country
  • Pete also plans to invest into the rural community by investing in rural jobs, businesses, and entrepreneurs
Education

  • Increase federal resources for students at Title 1 schools
  • New regulations to diversify teaching profession
  • Invest in high-quality state and local education programs
  • Make public tuition affordable for all, and completely free for families at low income and increased Pell Grants
  •  Middle-income families will pay zero tuition at public colleges.
  • Invest $50 billion in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority-Serving institutions (MSIs) 
  • Increase education in rural communities
Environment

  • Invest in solutions to environmental threats 
  • Implement a Green New Deal

  • Initiate health care plans that lower cost of prescription drugs and increase equity 
  • Launch a National Health Equity Strategy that will make sure health care is equal for everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status and income
  • Initiate a plan to empower community leaders and organizations to improve mental health and prevent addiction
  • Provide rural communities and veterans with affordable health care
Immigration
