LARRY SHARPE

MEET THE CANDIDATE


           Larry David Sharpe was born on July 12th, 1968 in Manhattan, New York. When he was only a few weeks old, Sharpe was adopted by a waitress and a policeman. At the age of 17, Larry took the courageous decision to join the United States Marines Corps in order to find positive role models. During his time in the marines, Larry managed to obtain core skills such as leadership, strategic thinking and honesty. Larry then moved on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Maryland and went on to become a teacher. He then became the candidate for the 2016 Libertarian vice presidential nomination where he obtained almost half the votes. As Larry moves on with his career, he hopes to become governor of NYC to ensure that everyone is taken care of.


                             KEY ISSUES
Sharpe believes that not enough is being done to adequately prepare our students. In order to fix the situation, Sharpe believes that each school should set up their educational curriculum and expectations to meet the needs of the students at that school. He also wants teachers to teach and innovate based on what is best for the student.
Sharpe believes that the main priority of the family court should be to keep families together to ensure the stability of the child (both emotionally and financially). He also wants to install a system that gets rid of Debtor’s Prison and instead install a ledger system that will put the offender on a payment plan. He also wants to help families spend more time together by not forcing parents to work extra to keep up a certain wage.
Sharpe plans on pushing the L-train project to the forefront in order for it to be completed in a timely manner and minimize delays. By revamping bus routes prior to the start of the project there will be minimal disruption to commuter transit lines. Sharpe hopes to implement a Scope Control Board that can offer additional over for the Capital Program Oversight Committee as they have continuously failed to control costs, scope, and schedule on large capital projects. Sharpe also plans on increasing revenue for upgrades by having bids for naming rights, and the transportation of goods.
Sharpe plans on revolutionizing the way citizens are able to view the government. By using current day technology he is going to make New York a more effective government that is better, faster, and cheaper. Citizens will be able to access the New York State website anywhere through mobile devices and examine how they spend their money and other information.
Sharpe plans on promoting drug education and other drug related programs through overdose protection sites and facilities that aid in combating addiction. He also hopes to reduce the penalty for non-violent drug related crimes. Sharpe promotes the legalization of recreational cannabis and plans on regulating the growing, processing, and distributing of cannabis as a normal agricultural crop.
Sharpe wants to insure that law abiding citizens are safe. Therefore, he believes that firearms should be allowed to be carried anywhere in NY as long as they were obtained legally, they are unlocked, and unloaded. Sharpe also believes that no one should be prosecuted for a gun crime if the gun was used to stop a crime. Sharpe wants to make sure that the regulations of obtaining a permit are within bound of the constitution. Therefore, he will install a 90 day waiting period and make sure that everyone is allowed a permit, anyone that is denied must be because of a valid reason.
Larry Sharpe plans on making up for the dwindling funds by transferring pensions in the state budget to be transferred to private funds and other options that no longer require state funding. In order to reduce medical costs he also plans on relieving the regulatory burden on the medical industry. By using this approach the state will be able lower property taxes and limit money gained from fines benefitting many citizens.
Larry Shape plans on regulating taxes to benefit smaller companies by repealing regulations that only cause smaller companies to go under. He also plans on limiting government interference with jobs by allowing employee regulation to be regulated by employers. ​
