About Kirsten Gillibrand 
​
Throughout her time in the Senate, Senator Gillibrand has been a leader in some of the toughest fights in Washington. She led the effort to repeal the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy that banned gays from serving openly in the military; she wrote the STOCK Act, which made it illegal for members of Congress to financially benefit from inside information; and she won the long fight to provide permanent health care and compensation to the 9/11 first responders and community survivors who are sick with diseases caused by the toxins at Ground Zero. Senator Gillibrand brought Democrats and Republicans together to win these legislative victories.Senate Armed Services Committee, Armed Services Subcommittee, Senate Agriculture Committee, Senate environment and Public Works Committee, Senate Aging Committee. Senator Gillibrand is well rounded and is an advocate for New York. Senator Gillibrand is fighting for New York to move forward in all of the areas that are important.

Agriculture:
1. Supporting New York’s Dairy Farmers :
  • Senator Gillibrand effect  wanted to reduce the milk prices, improve market transparency and keep export opportunities that help New York milk markets and farm profit.
2. Connecting Fresh Produce with New Markets:
  • Senator Gillibrand improves the Healthy Food Financing Initiative, what brings the grocery stores, farm markets, and healthy corner stores to under served communities.
  • She worked to expand food hub that supported farms and gave them opportunities to sell into these outlets, bring thousands of good jobs and promoted better health and nutritional outcome in low-income communities.
3. Labor:  
  • Farmers need support from laborers in order to increase the food supply and if they don’t have the help  they need Americans would have to pay a higher price.

4. No American Should Ever Know Hunger:
  • Senator Gillibrand has boosted the increase of funding for programs to ensure benefits are enough to support a healthy diet and are available to those in need in every community.
  • Senator Gillibrand had the efforts to expand the Special Supplemental Nutrition program for women, infants, children (WIC) and the nation’s opening of the public health nutrition program serving low-income mothers and young children at nutritional risk.

1. Protecting Our Environment and Fighting Climate Change:


  • Senator Gillibrand believes that taking care of the environment is one of the most valuable responsibilities we all can share.

2. Representing New York’s Strong Environmental Tradition
  • Senator Gillibrand believes in strengthening the environment and protecting the air that we breathe and the water we drink.
  • Senator Gillibrand promotes rich heritage and creating a new system and technology that will make new jobs in our state and address that the environmental issues from overturning the climate that repeats.

Gun Reforms:
 1. Protecting Victims of Domestic abuse from gun violence
  • Senator Gillibrand supports the closing of the temporary restraining order through the loophole by preventing individuals subject to a temporary controlling order from purchasing or possessing a firearm for the duration of the temporary restraining order and also supports closing the dating violence loophole by expanding the definition of the intimate partner to include a current or former dating partner.​
2. Preventing criminals from obtaining gun silencers
  • Senator Gillibrand strongly supported efforts to eliminate gun silencers from the requirements of the National Firearms Act.​
3. Closing the background check loophole
  • Senator Gillibrand supports worldwide background that checks every gun sale regardless of where the sale is taking place and does not believe that sellers should be able to proceed with a sale without a completed background check.
4. Protecting New Yorkers from National concealed carry
  • Senator Gillibrand believes that  each state should be able to make their own decisions about who can legally carry a weapon, and believe that a national concealed carry law would make an agreement to  public safety, and make our country and communities less safe and more susceptible to gun violence.
  • Senator Gillibrand doesn’t support efforts to allow people to carry a loaded concealed gun across state lines, even if that person is permitted to carry a weapon in their own state.

Immigration:
1. Creating opportunities for immigrants
  • Senator Gillibrand is trying to fix the American immigration system and treat all immigrants and workers with respect.
2. Defending Dreamers
  • Senator Gillibrand believes in taking care of the provisional protecting status available to  the current DACA recipients, who only knew that the United States as their home, and will continue to work and ensure the DACA individuals.
3. Protective immigrants and their families
  • Senator Gillibrand has called the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services to make sure that children are deported from their parents that are getting the care and services that they need.
  • She will continue to fight against separating  children from their parents because of the Administration.

4. Supporting Refugees and vulnerable immigrant populations
  • Senator Gillibrand wanted to protect children. They did this by providing legal services. Refugees help to make the country a better place.  Gillibrand supported TPS, which helped save many lives. This will help protect people and prosecute them if needed.

National Security:
1. Guarding against the threat of terrorism
  • Senator Gillibrand is disputing and protecting New York by sharing of anti-terrorism funding over a grant program such as the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI), and the transportation and the port security grant programs, which provide New York’s first responders with a critical funding to secure our most accessible communities and the foundation.
2. Providing critical tools to first responders
  • Senator Gillibrand has led the fight to pass the law of legislation to create a national, interoperable broadband network for our nation’s emergency workers.
3. Strengthening the U.S Israel friendship
  • Senator Gillibrand is dedicated to strengthen America’s close relationship with the State of Israel.
4. Protecting NY’s military assets
  • Congress has a handle of the results of the Budget Control Act, Senator Gillibrand has worked very strongly to ensure New York’s National Guard.
  • The National Guard does not bear an out of balance burden of defense cuts.
5. Fighting for those who fight for us
  • Senator Gillibrand is supporting the members who are victims of rape or sexual assault.  They are getting the needed medical treatment, and their cases are being properly investigated and try to bring action against the courts.

Medical Marijuana:

      1.  Recognize state’s responsibility to set the  Medical Marijuana policy and eliminate potential federal prosecution
  • The patients are providers and businesses are participating in the state medical marijuana programs will no longer be in breaking the  federal law. ​​​             
     2.  Allow state to impact Cannabidiol (CBD), recognized treatment for Epilepsy and seizure disorder
  •  This will allow the youth who are suffering from epilepsy to get the medicine they will need .
     3.  Provide Veterans access
  • The doctor is not allowed to prescribe medicine to the Veterans.
     4. Expand opportunities for research
  • She wants to expand  the opportunity to research. ​

Transparency and Accountability:
  • Senator Gillibrand wrote the STOCK ACT; The stock act is known as the stop trading on congressional knowledge act is and act of Congress made for insider trading.

1. Ensuring Educational opportunities for our veterans
  • Senator Gillibrand also announced two legislators  last year, the addresses were skilled gap employers face and improved job training to help workers develop their skills.
2. Protecting Vietnam Veterans exposed to agent orange
  • Senator Gillibrand has been pushing forward for the passage of the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act along the side of the bipartisan coalition in the U.S. House of Representatives.
3. Ensuring access to benefits and care
  • Senator Gillibrand is working to connect veterans with the proper resources and services in their area, by offering a page on her website with a complete index of veterans’ services across New York State.
  • Senator Gillibrand is also desirous about America’s veterans having access to timely and appropriate health care.
