Present Day Islam
Islam is followed by more than 1 billion people today; it is one of the world’s fastest growing religions. 23% of the world’s population believe in Islam. Some important Islamic holidays include Ashura, which is celebrated to commemorate the death of the grandson of the prophet Muhammad, Ramadan, which lasts one month and is celebrated by fasting, and Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated to honor the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael. Islam is tolerant of other religions because they do not force others to worship their god but they would influence the decision with teachings from the prophets. Islam promotes peace and does not condone acts of violence. |
